the maker

Mara Ellison, ceramic artist

Mara has been making ceramics in Byron Bay for over a decade. Her work blends organic forms with imperfect handmade finishes — soft matte glazes, speckled clay textures, and naturally asymmetrical shapes.

Each piece is made slowly, in small batches, with the intention that it will be used every day and feel better for it.

the process

From raw clay to finished piece

Every piece begins on the wheel. Wedged, centred, thrown, trimmed, bisque-fired, glazed, and fired again. A slow process — and that's the point.
